Designing WBC Vacations was all about honoring two things: the calm beauty of the lake just steps away and the character-rich bones of the mid-century modern home itself.
From the moment I stepped inside, I felt the potential. The clean lines. The vaulted ceilings. The original angles and wide windows that practically begged the outdoors to become part of the indoors. There’s a quiet confidence in MCM architecture. It doesn’t shout, but it knows what it’s doing. And I wanted to design with that in mind.
At the same time, the lake was whispering to me. Its palette of cool blues, misty greys, soft greens, and the golden warmth of the shoreline was something I kept returning to again and again. I didn’t want to fight the nature outside the home. I wanted to reflect it.
So I let those two voices, the soul of the house and the mood of the water guide me.
I leaned into natural materials and textures that would age well and feel lived in. Earthy wood tones and warm metals nod to the home's original mid-century vibe, while layered linens, and textural rug offer softness and movement, like waves rolling in at dusk. I chose décor with balance, simplicity, and intention just like the home itself.
The furniture pieces were selected with both comfort and structure like the low profile sofa & leather MCM chairs. They echo the era without feeling like a time capsule. And the palette? It’s lifted straight from a lakeside morning cool and grounding, with just enough warmth to feel welcoming & a bit of playfulness, which is found in the wallpapers in the bedrooms and half baths.
One of my favorite moments in the space is how the natural light plays off the walls and floors throughout the day. It casts shadows that stretch dramatically across the ceiling beams, a quiet reminder that this home has history and heart.
Designing WBC Vacations wasn’t about following trends. It was about listening to the house, to the land, to the feeling I wanted guests to carry with them when they left. It’s a space where mid-century character meets lakeside calm. A place to pause, to breathe, and to feel completely at ease.
